No. 11-ranked senior Clayton Davidson leads Wrestling on day one of Wheaton (Ill.) Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. — No. 11-ranked senior Clayton Davidson (Kirtland) posted a 4-1 record at 174 pounds to lead the Ohio Northern wrestling team on the first day of the Pete Willson-Wheaton (Ill.) Invitational on Friday at King Arena.
The Polar Bears are 28th of 38 teams, 11 of which are ranked in the NCAA Division III top 25, with 17.5 points.
Davidson had a pin and three decisions and has reached the fourth round of the consolation bracket.
He will compete again on Saturday morning against top-seeded and No. 2-ranked Jariod James of Mount Union, with the winner guaranteed to place in the top eight of the weight class.
Sophomore Schuyler Caprella (Harrod/Allen East) and junior Seth Transue (Plain City/Dublin Jerome) each won twice efore being elimiated for ONU.
Caprella was 2-2 with a pin at 157 pounds, while Transue was 2-1 with a fall before withdrawing due to medical forfeit at 125 pounds.
