Senior Kyler Deeter and freshman Nate Barcaskey lead Wrestling in 28-15 victory over Manchester (Ind.)

ADA — The Ohio Northern wrestling team won its first dual meet of the season as it defeated Manchester (Ind.) 28-15 Friday evening at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears move to 1-0 overall, while the Spartans fall to 1-4.
Freshman Michael Higley (Edwardsburg, Mich.) got Ohio Northern on the board with an 11-5 decision 125 pounds. Higley is now 1-0 on the season.
Junior Brad Taton (Mentor/Lake Catholic) followed Higley's victory with a solid 7-1 decision at 133 pounds and extended the Polar Bears lead to 6-0. Taton improves to 10-5 on the year.
After Manchester regained the lead with back-to-back pins, sophomore Gavin Nelson (Oregon/Clay) closed the gap to 9-12 with a major decision at 157. Nelson improves to 5-1 on the season.
No. 23-ranked and senior Kyler Deeter (Covington) would even the score at 15-15 after a huge pin just 53 seconds into the first period. Deeter moves to 7-4 on the year.
Junior Alex Bair (Centerville) would break the tie with a major decision at 184 to give Northern a 19-15 lead. Bair improves to 6-4 on the season at the 184 pound weight class.
Junior Evan Hickey (Blanchester/Wilmington) would seal the Polar Bear victory in the 197 weight class as he won by decision to give Northern a 7-point advantage heading into the final bout. Hickey moves to 8-6 on the year with the victory.
In the heavyweight bout, freshman Nate Barcaskey (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) would ensure a Polar Bear victory as he won with a pin in 3:37. Barcaskey improves to 10-4 with the victory.
The Polar Bears will return to action Monday, Dec. 19, as they travel to Lexington, Va., to compete in the Washington & Lee (Va.) duals.
