Wrestling posts 0-3 record in pool play on Day 1 of Lycoming (Pa.) Duals

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Ohio Northern wrestling team finished pool play with an 0-3 record on the first day of the Lycoming (Pa.) Duals on Friday at Lamade Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears (7-4 overall) fell to Olivet (Mich.) 26-15, to Oswego State (N.Y.) 22-18 and to No. 6-ranked Messiah (Pa.) 38-6 in Pool A in the round-robin portion of the tournament.

Against Olivet (6-8 overall), freshman Clayton Davidson got the Polar Bears on the board with an impressive first period pin in just 1:14 at 157 pounds.

Davidson finished the day with a perfect 3-0 record to lead Ohio Northern.

Junior Kyler Deeter followed that with a 7-3 decision at 165 to pull ONU within 16-9.

Junior Ian Brown picked up a pin at 184 pounds to make it 19-15.

Against Oswego State (3-5), freshman Gavin Nelson posted a first period pin at 149 pounds to pull ONU within 11-6.

Davidson followed that win with a 6-4 decision at 157 pounds to make it 11-9.

Deeter made it three wins in a row with a 5-1 decision at 165 to give ONU a 12-11 lead.

After a Laker pin at 174, Brown posted a 7-3 decision at 184 pounds to pull ONU within 17-15.

Oswego put the matrch away with a tech fall at 197, but senior Kody Bellamy won by decision 5-1 at heavyweight to make the final score 22-18.

Against Messiah (8-2), Davidson posted an 11-5 victory at 157 pounds to get ONU on the board and Bellamy posted a 5-2 decision at heavyweight to wrap up the match.

Northern will compete for places 13-16 on Saturday with matches against other No. 4 seeds from the other three pools in the placement portion of the 16-team tournament.

The Polar Bears will face King's (Pa.) in the semifinals at 9 am and will either face Trine (Ind.) or RIT (N.Y.) in the final match of the tournament at Noon on Saturday.
