No. 12 Wisconsin-Whitewater edges No. 24 Wrestling 18-16 in semifinals of Lycoming (Pa.) Duals

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The No. 24-ranked Ohio Northern wrestling team was edged 18-16 by No. 12 Wisconsin-Whitewater in the semifinals of the Budd Whitehill wrestling tournament on Saturday morning.
The loss drops the Polar Bear's record to 7-4 on the year, while the Warhawks improve to 13-7 overall.
The match was tightly contested throughout, with each team winning five of the ten matches.
Wisconsin-Whitewater jumped to an 11-3 lead after four weight-classes.
The Polar Bears responded by winning the next three matches to take a 13-11 lead over the Warhawks.
Seniors Mick Letcher and No. 5-ranked Billy Painter won by decision at 157 and 165 pounds, respectively, and junior two-time All-American Kyle Kwiat won by major decision at 174 pounds.
After UWW won at 184 to regain a 14-13 lead, sophomore Michael Pawlitz won by decision at 197 to give the Polar Bears a 16-14 advantage heading into the final bout of the meet.
But the Warhawks won by major decision at heavyweight to claim the exciting dual.
The Bears will compete against No. 7 SUNY Cortland (N.Y.) at 3 pm on Saturday in the third place match.
