Pins by Jones, Letcher and Lovejoy lead No. 24 Wrestling past Baldwin-Wallace 45-7 in OAC opener
ADA — No. 24-ranked Ohio Northern got pins from junior Jeremy Jones, senior Mick Letcher and freshman Cody Lovejoy and went on to post a 45-7 victory over Baldwin-Wallace in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both teams Tuesday night at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears imparove to 5-3 overall and are 1-0 in OAC action, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-1, 0-1.
Jones got a first period pin in 2:31 to expand Northern's lead to 9-0 and improve to 13-5 on the season.
After a pair of B-W victories at 141 and 149 pounds pulled the Yellow Jackets within 9-7, Letcher got a pin in 1:26 at 157 pounds to give the Polar Bears a 15-7 lead.
Ohio Northern got forfeiat victories at 165, 174, 184 and 197 pounds to take a 39-7 lead.
Lovejoy then got a pin in 2:48 at heavyweight to wrap up the meet and improve to 11-6 on the year.
Freshman Cole Cochran got ONU on the board with a 5-2 decision at 125 pounds. Cochran is now 7-7 on the year.
The Polar Bears will return to action Friday and Saturday at the Lycoming (Pa.) Duals. ONU will face No. 29 Thiel (Pa.) at 10:30 am in the first round.
