Before arriving at Ohio Northern, Bonnell was the head coach at Wittenberg for three seasons. She guided her teams to a 38-12 overall record and a perfect 22-0 league record during the span.

Bonnell also has assistant coaching experience from stints with New Haven (Conn.) from 2005-09 and 2011 and Wooster in 2004.

In addition, she served as the head coach for St. Anne's Day School in Annapolis, Md., during the 2010 season.

In lacrosse, she was a three-time All-American and was named the 2003 North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year. She holds the program record at Wooster for career points (300) and assists (139) and ranks fifth in goals (161). Her 85 points during the 2003 season ranks second all-time, and she holds three of the top four spots on the all-time single-season assists leaderboard with 38 in 2002 and 37 in the 2001 and 2003 seasons.
