Hoersten scores her 100th career goal to lead Women's Lacrosse to a 15-12 win over Marietta

MARIETTA — Junior Emma Hoersten (Hilliard/Davidson) scored her 100th career goal and finished the game with five goals and one assist to lead the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team to a 15-12 win at Marietta on a warm Saturday afternoon.

Individual Highlights

• Junior Mackenzie Miller (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) scored four goals to earn her second career hat trick. 
• Senior Gabby Monastra (Wooster) scored three goals and earned her first career hat trick. 
• The Orange and Black scored six unanswered goals in the first period to get off to a quick 6-0 lead.
• Senior Keaghan Burden (Brunswick) opened the second period with a goal at 13:40 and then Monastra scored back-to-back goals to make it 9-0
• Marietta went on a 3-1 run to end the first half, but ONU led 10-3 going into halftime. 
• Monastra scored her third goal of the game at 2:23 in the third period to give ONU an 11-6 lead.
• The Polar Bears led 11-8 heading into the fourth period.
• Ohio Northern and Marietta would trade goals, but ONU had the 3-2 advantage and led 14-10 with 4:50 left in the fourth period.
• Northern's defense held off the Pioneers with less than two minutes left in the game  
• The Pioneers were led by Hope Adams who had four goals and two assists.
• Seniors Emma LoGiudice (Wooster) and Alise Callahan (Cedarburg, Wis.) each had a team-high two caused turnovers for the Polar Bears.
• Jenna Messinger (Springboro) had nine saves to help the Polar Bears 
• ONU out-shot MU 31-30 and had the ground ball advantage 27-16.

• ONU leads the all-time series 5-2. 
• Hoersten now has seven hat tricks this season and 15 in her career.
• Hoersten is second in ONU history in career goals with 102 and is third with 125 points.
• Hoersten also leads the team this season in goals with 35.
• She has the ONU career record in free-position goals with 37.
• Burden is first all-time in Ohio Northern history with 206 career points. She is also ONU's all-time career leader with 117 assists and is fifth with 90 career goals.
• She has a team-high 47 points on 23 goals and 24 assists this season.
• Martin leads the team with 48 draw controls this year and is third all-time with 157.
• Head coach Margo Vandeveld is in her second season at Ohio Northern and has a 16-12 record, a winning percentage of .571.
