ADA — The Women's Lacrosse team fell to Mount Union 19-7 on a windy Saturday afternoon in its Ohio Athletic Conference opener. 

The Game

  • Records: Ohio Northern (6-3 overall, 0-1 OAC), Mount Union (6-3 overall, 1-0 OAC).
  • Venue: Dial Robertson Stadium - Ada, Ohio.

Individual Highlights

  • Junior Elena Martin (Canfield) had two goals and one assist in the game to lead ONU. 
  • Junior Emma Hoersten (Hilliard/Davidson) finished the game with two goals. 
  • Senior Gabby Monastra (Wooster) had one goal and one assist to help the Polar Bears. 
  • The Purple Raiders went on a 3-0 run to open the game.
  • Hoersten got the Polar Bears on the scoreboard with a goal at 8:40 to make it 3-1.
  • At the end of 1st period, senior Gabby Monastra (Wooster) scored at 0:07 to cut the lead to 7-2.
  • Junior Mackenzie Miller (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) would score the opening goal in the third period to make it 7-3.
  • Mount Union would lead 11-3 heading into halftime. 
  • Ohio Northern out-scored Mount Union in the fourth period 3-2. 
  • Freshmen Kara Fox (South Euclid/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) and Jenna Messinger (Springboro) combined for 8 saves to help the Polar Bears. 
  • MU out-shot ONU 34-15 and had the ground ball advantage 22-19.

  • MU leads the series 11-0. 
  • Hoersten is third in ONU history in career goals with 96 and is fifth with 118 points.
  • Hoersten also leads the team this season in goals with 29.
  • She has the ONU career record in free-position goals with 36.
  • Senior Keaghan Burden (Brunswick) is first all-time in Ohio Northern history with 204 career points. She is also ONU's all-time career leader with 116 assists and is fifth with 89 career goals.
  • She has a team-high 45 points on 22 goals and 23 assists this season.
  • Martin leads the team with 36 draw controls this year and is third all-time with 145.
  • Head coach Margo Vandeveld is in her second season at Ohio Northern and has a 15-11 record, a winning percentage of .576.
