Three Polar Bears score hat tricks to help Women's Lacrosse win 18-6 against Guilford (N.C.)

GREENSBURG (N.C.) — Three different Polar Bears earned hat tricks to help the women's lacrosse open its spring break schedule with a win at Guilford (N.C.) on Tuesdat afternoon. 

The Basics

• Records: Ohio Northern (4-2 overall), Guilford (2-5 overall)
• Venue: Armfield Athletic Center - Greensburg, N.C.

The Game

• Junior Emma Hoersten (Hilliard/Davidson) finished the game with five points, four goals, and one assist for her 13th career hat trick.
• Junior Elena Martin (Canfield) earned her 15th career hat trick with three goals. 
• Freshman Hailey Hahn (Lima/Senior) earned her first career hat trick with three goals as well. 
• Senior Keaghan Burden (Brunswick) had two goals and three assists to help get the victory. 
• The Polar Bears opened the game with senior Alise Callahan (Cedarburg, Wis.) and Hahn scoring goals to make it 2-0.
• Guilford would tie it 2-2 before the end of the first period.
• ONU and Guilford exchanged goals in the early stages of the 2nd, and it was 4-4 after 10:15.
• The Orange and Black went on a 7-1 run to earn an 11-5 lead heading into halftime. 
• ONU scored five unanswered the entire third period and to lead 16-5 going into the fourth. 
• The Quakers were led by Emma Garland and Riley Gravley, who scored 2 goals each. 
• ONU would score two more goals in the 4th to extend the lead to 18-6. 
• Freshman Kara Fox (South Euclid/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) and sophomore Jenna Messinger (Springboro) combined for 4 saves to help ONU get the win.
• ONU out-shot GC 39-12 and had the ground ball advantage 24-15.

• Ohio Northern tied the all-time series at 1-1 against Guliford.
• Hoersten is fourth in career goals with 89 and is fifth with her 111 points.
• Martin has 97 career points on 79 goals and 18 assists and needs three more to reach 100.
• She ranks seventh all-time at ONU with her 76 career goals.
• Nine different Polar Bears scored goals in the contest.
• Hoersten leads the team this season in goals with 22.
• Hoersten has the ONU career record in free-position goals with 33.
• Burden is first all-time in Ohio Northern history with 187 career points. She is also ONU's all-time career leader with 108 assists and is tied for seventh with 79 career goals.
• Burden has a team-high 31 points on 15 goals and 16 assists this season.
• Martin leads the team with 28 draw controls this year and is third all time with 137.
