Women's Lacrosse falls at Oberlin in a snowy season opener

OBERLIN — The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener at Oberlin 21-3 on a snowy Thursday afternoon.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (0-1 overall), Oberlin (1-0 overall).

The Game
- Junior Mackenzie Miller (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) scored two goals and started the scoring for the Polar Bears at 2:25.
- Oberlin started quickly, scoring four goals in the first 4:18 of the contest before Miller made it 4-1.
- OC would score the next four goals before Miller would score her second goal of the day at 11:26 left in the 2nd period to trim the deficit to 7-2.
- Oberlin would lead at halftime 11-2.
- Sophomore Jenna Messinger (Springboro) had 6 saves and fresman Kara Fox (South Euclid/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) had 1 save to help the Polar Bears.
- Kylie Thompson led Oberlin with 6 goals and 2 assists.
- OC out-shot ONU 40-13.
Notables
- The game scheduled for Wednesday, but was postponed due to extremely cold temperatures.
- Senior Keaghan Burden (Brunswick) is first all-time in Ohio Northern history with 158 career points. She is also ONU's all-time career leader with 93 assists and is seventh with 65 career goals.
- Burden also had 35 assists last season to lead the team.
- Junior Elena Martin (Canfield) led the team in groundballs last season with 51.
- Junior Emma Hoersten (Hilliard/Davidson) has the ONU career record in free position goals with 25.
- Head coach Margo Vandeveld is in her second season at Ohio Northern and has a 9-9 record, a winning percentage of .500.
