UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team wrapped up its 2023 season on Saturday afternoon with a 13-6 loss at John Carroll in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament at Don Shula Stadium.
The No. 6 seeded Polar Bears end their season with an 8-9 record, while the No. 3 seeded Blue Streaks advance to the semifinals with an 8-7 record.
Senior Amanda Wells (Mason) scored with 4:35 gone in the contest to give ONU an early 1-0 advantage.
But JCU would answer by scoring six of the game's next seven goals to grab a 6-2 lead with 10:33 left in the half.
Freshman Emma Hoersten (Hilliard/Davidson) scored with 7:44 left in the half to get Northern within 6-3.
John Carroll led 7-3 at halftime and 10-4 after three quarters and held on for the win.
Senior Meredith Miller (Noblesville, Ind.) and junior Emma Perry (Pickerington/North) each scored two goals and Hoersten had a goal and four draw controls to lead ONU.
The OAC Tournament appearance was the third consecutive for Ohio Northern.
JCU out-shot ONU 33-22 and had a 23-19 advantage in ground balls.
