Meredith Miller sets school career scoring record, Women's Lacrosse falls to Marietta 14-13 in overtime thriller

ADA — Senior Meredith Miller (Noblesville, Ind.) became Ohio Northern's all-time career goal scoring leader, but Marietta spoiled the celebration with a 14-13 overtime victory on a sunny Friday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears fall to 6-6 overall and are 0-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers improve to 7-4, 1-1.
Miller scored five goals in the contest, giving her 101 for her career. She broke the previous record of 99 set by Maddie Storr from 2016-20.
She also recorded her 15th career hat trick, tying her for third all-time in ONU history in that category.
Sophomore Grace Wilson (Midland, Mich./Dow) tied the game at 13-all with 14 seconds left in regulation off an assist from senior Amanda Wells (Mason) to send the game into overtime.
Northern won the initial draw control in the extra period, but was unable to get a shot on goal and turned the ball over on a shot clock violation with 1:24 left.
Maggie Downard won the game for MC with just four seconds left in the first overtime off an assist from Natalie Cocco.
Freshmen Elena Martin (Canfield) and Emma Hoersten (Hilliard/Davidson) each had two goals and an assist for ONU.
Marietta was led by Mallory Wiles with four goals and Hope Adams with three goals and an assist.
The Pioneers jumped to a quick 4-1 lead just six minutes into the contest and led 6-3 at the end of the first quarter.
Northern battled back and tied the game at 7-7 on a goal by Wells with 4:30 left in the half, but MC would tally a goal 2:38 later to lead 8-7 at intermission.
Marietta would then score three of the first four goals in the third quarter to extend their lead to 11-8.
Miller scored her record-breaking goal with 10:41 left in the game off an assist from Martin to get ONU within 12-11.
Her goal with 4:48 left brought the hosts within 13-12, setting up Wilson's game-tying goal with 14 seconds left in regulation.
Ohio Northern out-shot Marietta 29-27, but MC won the ground ball battle 18-16 and won 17 of the 30 draw controls.
The Polar Bears return to action next Saturday at Muskingum.
