ADA —Freshman Rylie Kocik (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) scored six goals and senior Amanda Wells (Mason) added four goals to lead the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team to a 17-8 victory over Trine (Ind.) on a beautiful Wednesday night at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Thunder fell to 2-1.
Kocik added an assist for seven points and Wells picked up four draw controls and three ground balls for ONU.
Senior Meredith Miller (Noblesville, Ind.) also had a hat trick with three goals and sophomore Keaghan Burden (Brunswick) added two goals and a game-high four assists for Ohio Northern.
Trine was led by Danielle Gargiulo and Brooke Hoag with three goals each.
ONU out-scored TU 11-3 in the second half to turn a slim 6-5 halftime lead into a comfortable win.
The hosts scored the first three goals of the game to lead 3-0 7:37 into the game, but the Thunder rallied to within 6-5 by intermission.
A 6-1 run to start the third quarter extended the Polar Bear lead to 12-6 with 1:12 left in the period.
Northern then scored the first five goals of the fourth period to lead 17-7 with 4:42 to go.
Junior Chloe Millican (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) stopped nine of 17 shots in goal to pick up the win.
Ohio Northern out-shot Trine 28-22 and enjoyed a 26-22 advantage in ground balls.
The Polar Bears return to action on Sunday with a 3:30 pm home contest against West Virginia Wesleyan.
