Elizabeth Graham’s late goal leads Women’s Lacrosse to 10-9 win at Marietta

MARIETTA — Sophomore Elizabeth Graham (Riverside/Carroll) scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, on Saturday as the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team earned a 10-9 victory over Marietta at Marietta Field.
The Polar Bears improve to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while the Pioneers fall to 6-6, 0-5.
Sophomore Emma Perry (Pickerington/North) paced the Northern offense with three goals, while sophomore Avary Snyder (Uniontown/Lake) and junior Meredith Miller (Noblesville, Ind.) joined Graham with two goals each.
Hope Adams, who led Marietta with three goals, scored with 4:07 left in the game to give the Pioneers a 9-8 lead.
Miller tied the score with 2:52 remaining, and Graham added the game-winner with 1:18 left.
The down-to-the-wire finish came after the Polar Bears got out to a hot start, outscoring Marietta 5-2 in the first quarter on a pair of goals from Snyder and one each from Graham, Miller and sophomore Sydney Kilgore (Pleasant Plain/Little Miami).
Perry opened the scoring in the second quarter with a goal with 11:32 left, but the Pioneers closed the period on a 3-0 run to go into halftime trailing 6-5.
MC outscored ONU 2-1 in the third quarter to send the game into the fourth with the score tied at 7-all.
Marietta proceeded to take its first lead of game on a goal from Megan McGriff with 12:48 remaining.
Perry tied the score with 11:31 left, but the Pioneers regained the lead on Adams' goal, setting up the exciting finish.
Sophomore Chloe Millican (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) finished with nine saves in goal for ONU.
Marietta out-shot ONU 27-22, while Northern finished with a 31-25 edge in ground balls.
The Polar Bears return to action on Friday when they host OAC foe John Carroll at 1 p.m.
