ADA — Junior Meredith Miller (Noblesville, Ind.) and sophomore Sydney Kilgore (Pleasant Plain/Little Miami) scored two goals each to lead the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team in a 7-6 loss to Wittenberg in the home opener on Wednesday night at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears fall to 2-2, while the Tigers improve to 3-2.
Northern led 5-2 at halftime as Kilgore scored off an assist from sophomore Elizabeth Graham (Riverside/Carroll) just ahead of the buzzer at the end of the half.
But WU scored four consecutive goals in the third quarter, including two in the final 39 seconds, to grab a 6-5 lead.
Miller tied the game at 6-6 with an unassisted goal at the 6:34 mark of the fourth period.
Wittenberg scored the game-winner when Jessica Flick potted her fourth goal of the night with 4:42 left to play.
Northern had four possessions in the final three minutes with a chance to tie, but the Tiger defense stiffened and held ONU without a shot the rest of the way.
Sophomore Molly Dixson (Cannonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) stopped seven of 14 shots in goal for the hosts.
ONU out-shot WU 27-19 and won the ground ball battle 27-17.
Ohio Northern will return to action on Saturday at Trine (Ind.)
