MARIETTA —Ohio Northern scored six unanswered goals in a 7:35 span late in the game, but eventually fell 16-12 in an Ohio Athletic Conference women's lacrosse game at Marietta on Saturday at the Marietta Field
The Polar Bears fall to 5-8 overall and are 5-8 in the OAC, while the Pioneers improve to 6-6, 6-6.
Freshman Avary Snyder (Uniontown/Lake) had a hat trick with four goals and freshman Sydney Kilgore (Pleasant Plain/Little Miami) had a 3-goal hat trick to lead ONU.
Marietta scored six consecutive goals in the first half to take a 6-1 lead with 11:36 left before halftime.
ONU answered with three goals to get within 6-4 and trailed 7-4 at intermission.
MC went on a 10-2 run to start the second half to build its lead to 15-6 with just 9:08 left.
But the Polar Bears rallied with three straight goals by Snyder in 1:30 to get within 15-9 with seven minutes to go.
Kilgore scored at 4:52, sophomore Amanda Wells (Mason) scored at 2:50 and Snyder get her fourth goal of the game with 55 seconds remaining to make it 15-12.
But the Pioneers would get a goal at the 28-second mark to tie the game.
Marietta out-shot Ohio Northern 42-32, but ONU had a 24-20 advantage in ground balls.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Wednesday with a 7 pm contest at home with Capital at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
