Sydney Kilgore scores a career-high 7 goals to lead Women's Lacrosse in 21-16 loss at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE — Freshman Sydney Kilgore (Pleasant Plain/Little Miami) had her second career hat trick in as many games with a career-high seven goals, leading the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team in a 21-16 loss at Otterbein on Wednesday at Memorial Stadium.
The Polar Bears fall to 0-2 overall and are 0-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Cardinals improve to 2-0, 2-0.
Kilgore picked up three goals in the first 20 minutes of the contest and now has 10 goals in her first two intercollegiate contests.
Sophomore Amanda Wells (Mason) had her first career hat trick with three goals and senior Ann McArn (Bay Village/Western Reserve Academy and freshman Emma Perry (Pickerington/North) had two goals each for ONU.
Five Otterbein players had hat tricks in the game, led by Julia Karas with six goals.
The game was the highest scoring contest in ONU women's lacrosse history, surpassing the 35 goals in a 20-15 Otterbein win in the 2018 meeting between these two teams in Westerville.
Northern scored the first two goals (by Kilgore and Perry) and answered a 4-0 OU run with goals by Kilgore and freshman Noel Orioli (Westerville/North) to tie it at 4-4 just 7:27 into the contest.
Otterbein broke open a tight game with five consecutive goals in a 2:31 span to grab a 13-6 lead with 6:36 left in the half.
OU led 16-9 at halftime and were up 21-12 with 14:21 to play.
But the Polar Bears played hard for the full 60 minutes, outscoring Otterbein 4-0 the rest of the way.
Otterbein out-shot Ohio Northern 41-26 and won the ground ball battle 16-8.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday against Marietta at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
