TIFFIN — The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team scored seven consecutive goals and held off a late charge to defeat Heidelberg 12-9 on Wednesday night at Hoernemann Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 5-5 overall and are 1-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Student Princes fall to 7-4, 1-1.
Junior Maddie Storr (Clarence, N.Y.) scored four goals and junior Betsy Naugle (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) had three goals and four assists to lead ONU.
Storr scored with four seconds left in the opening half to break a 5-all tie and give ONU a 6-5 lead at intermission.
Northern then tallied the first six goals of the second half, scored by six different players, to take a 12-5 lead with 8:34 left in the game.
But Heidelberg finished the game by scoring the final four goals and get within 12-9 with 53 seconds left.
Storr then won the ensuing draw control and ONU ran out the clock for the win.
Heidelberg out shot Ohio Northern 34-29 and had a 20-17 advantage in ground balls.
Junior Kelli Hill (Worthington) had 13 saves and a .591 save percentage in goal for ONU.
The Polar Bears will return to the road on Saturday with a 1 pm contest at Muskingum.
