Women's Lacrosse breaks single-game scoring record with 19-2 victory over Greensboro (N.C.)

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse program broke its single-game scoring record Friday afternoon, ending their 2019 Spring Break trip with a resounding 19-2 victory over Greensboro (N.C.) at Pride Field.

The Polar Bears' 19 goals surpassed the previous program-best mark of 18 goals set on three separate occasions, including this season's 18-3 victory over Hiram on February 27. In addition, the 17-goal triumph is now the largest margin of victory in program history.

With the victory, the Polar Bears improve to 2-2 overall and finish 1-1 on this season's Spring Break trip. Meanwhile, the Pride drop to 0-2 in 2019.

Juniors Betsy Naugle (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) and Jacqui Lohman (Liberty Township/Lakota East) guided the offensive barrage, netting five goals each in the contest. Lohman's five strikes also established a new career-best goal total for the third-year starter.

Meanwhile, sophomore Sydney Skelding (North Plainfield, N.J./Dublin) tallied a four-goal hat trick in her first game of the 2019 season. She would add an assist, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

Defensively, Lohman, sophomore Sabra Woodruff (Beavercreek), and junior Kayla Penrod (Marysville) each caused three turnovers in the contest to lead the team.

Junior goalkeeper Kelli Hill (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) totaled eight saves en route to her second win in net this season.

Early on, the Pride managed to keep the contest close, responding quickly to Naugle's game-opening goal scored 41 seconds into the game.

From there, Ohio Northern strung together four consecutive goals off the sticks of Lohman, Skelding, and junior Ann McArn (Bay Village/Western Reserve Academy).

GC's Kara Whitson ended the Polar Bear run with a free-position shot at the 18:07 mark.

A stingy Ohio Northern defense did not allow another goal for the remaining 48 minutes in Friday's contest, allowing ONU to ride a 14-0 scoring run to victory.

Ohio Northern will now break from action until next Thursday, March 14 when Albion (Mich.) visits Ada for a nonconference showdown. Game time is set for 7 p.m. inside Dial-Roberson Stadium.
