Jacqui Lohman nets 4-goal hat trick, but Women's Lacrosse falls 12-11 in overtime thriller

ADA — Junior Jacqui Lohman (Liberty Township/Lakota East) scored four goals for her fifth career hat trick and the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team rallied from an early 5-0 deficit, but ultimately fell 12-11 in an overtime thriller to NCAA Division II foe Ursuline on a chilly Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears (1-1 overall) also got two goals each from juniors Betsy Naugle (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) and Ann McArn (Bay Village/Western Reserve) and freshman Kate Naugle (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area).
The Arrows (1-1) got four goals and five assists from Michaela Riley.
UC got a goal and three assists from Riley and raced to a 5-0 lead in the first 9:16 of the game.
But Ohio Northern rallied with six consecutive goals over the next 14:08 to grab a 6-5 lead.
ONU led 8-6 at halftime. and pushed that lead to 9-6 when Lohman scored just 50 seconds into the second half.
Ursuline scored three straight to tie the game at 9-9, but Kate Naugle answered at the 15:03 mark of the second half to put ONU ahead 10-9.
Lohman scored again at the 10:52 mark to give ONU an 11-10 lead.
Junior Eli Carter (Lebanon) appeared to give ONU a 12-10 lead with a goal with just 1:57 left in the game, but the goal was overturned due to an illegal pocket in her stick.
The Arrows then scored just 18 seconds later to tie the game at 11-11 and send it into overtime.
Northern won the draw control, but turned the ball over and UC scored at the 1:43 mark to win the contest.
ONU held a 23-20 advantage in ground balls and each team committed 23 turnovers.
Ursuline out-shot Ohio Northern 26-18 and won 17 of the 24 draw controls.
Junior Kelli Hill (Worthington) picked up her first career victory in goal with five saves for Northern.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Tuesday with a 1 pm contest at Guilford (N.C.)
