ADA — Freshman Sydney Skelding (Dublin, Calif.) scored her fourth consecutive hat trick to lead the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team in an 18-9 loss to Baldwin Wallace on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears fall to 6-6 overall and are 3-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 6-8, 4-2.
Skelding scored three goals for ONU and now has six hat tricks on the season, including in each of the past four games.
Sophomore Betsy Naugle (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) added two goals and sophomore Rachel Shipman (Noblesville, Ind.) added two assists for Ohio Northern.
Baldwin Wallace was led by Caitlin Wheeler with seven goals and two assists.
The Yellow Jackets scored twice in the first 1:38 of the game before Skelding got her first goal to make it 2-1 5:37 in.
Skelding scored again with 14:35 to play in the first half to trim the deficit to 5-2.
BW stretched the lead to 10-2 before sophomores Hailey Green (South Lyon, Mich.) and Elizabeth Carter (Lebanon) scored in the final five minutes of the half to get ONU within 10-4 at intermission.
Skelding finished her hat trick with 18:58 to play to make it 14-6.
BW out-shot ONU 37-27 and won the ground ball battle 31-24.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Wednesday with a 7 pm non-conference game at Wooster.
