Freshman Rachel Shipman nets a career-high 6 goals to lead Women's Lacrosse in loss at Saint Mary's (Ind.)

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Freshman Rachel Shipman (Noblesville, Ind.) scored a career-high six goals to lead the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team in a 16-10 loss at Saint Mary's (Ind.) on Saturday afternoon at the Purcell Athletic Field.
The Polar Bears (1-6 overall) also got a hat trick from freshman Elizabeth Carter (Lebanon).
Mary Singler had a game-high seven goals to lead the Belles (2-3).
Shipman's 6-goal outburst was her second consecutive hat trick and she now has a team-leading 12 goals on the season.
It also marks the second-highest goal total in school history and was just two shy of the school record eight goals by sophomore Maddie Storr (Clarence, N.Y.) set last season.
Shipman also grabbed a career-high six ground balls.
Carter's hat trick was the first of her career and she is now second on the team with eight goals.
Freshman Betsy Naugle (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) also scored for ONU, giving her seven on the season.
Saint Mary's scored three consecutive goals to snap a 1-1 tie and take a 4-1 lead midway through the first half and took a 7-4 lead into intermission.
Northern got goals from Shipman and Carter in the first two minutes of the second half to pull within 8-6 and Shipman scored again at the 23:59 mark to make it 9-7.
But the Belles put the game out of reach by scoring the next five goals to extend their lead to 14-7 with 9:19 to play.
SMC out-shot ONU 45-24 and had a 37-24 advantage in ground balls.
The Polar Bears will look to get back on track on Tuesday night when they host Hiram at 7 pm at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
