GAMBIER — Freshman Rachel Shipman (Noblesville, Ind.) had her first career hat trick to lead the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team in a 17-10 loss at Kenyon on Wednesday afternoon at Mavec Field.
The Polar Bears fall to 1-5, while the Ladies improve to 4-3.
Sophomore Alexis Cailor (Boardman) added two goals for ONU.
Kenyon came out hot and raced to an 11-1 lead in the first 18:30 of the game.
But the Polar Bears battled back, scoring the final four goals of the half to go into intermission trailing just 11-5.
Cailor started the rally with goals at the 8:09 and 6:04 mark and was followed with goals by junior Chelsea Cousins (Lewis Center/Olentangy) with 1:18 to go and freshman Katie McCourt (Fairview Park/Magnificat) with 42 seconds to play in the half.
Shipman scored all three of her goals in the second half and her first goal at the 18:33 mark got ONU within 13-6.
She also scored at the 11:08 mark to make it 15-8 and at the 6:50 mark to make it 16-9.
Kenyon out-shot Ohio Northern 39-20 in the game.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday at 1 pm with a road game at Saint Mary's (Ind.)
