Women's Lacrosse welcomes 12 newcomers as part of 2017 recruiting class
ADA — The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse program will welcome 12 incoming freshmen to the team as part of the recruiting class of 2017.
Rachel Shipman arrives to ONU from Noblesville High School in Indiana.
She was a 3-year Varsity Starter and 2016 team captain when her HS lacrosse team went undefeated (19-0) during the regular season. Rachel was also a participant in the 2015 and 2016 Junior/Senior All-Star game.
Shipman was a 4-year member of the varsity women's basketball team and was voted team captain her senior year. She received conference honorable mention and broke the single game three point record on two separate occasions.
She joins the Polar Bear family as an Exercise Physiology major.
Elizabeth Carter went to Lebanon High School and looks to make an impact for Northern in 2017.
She received 2nd Team All-District Honors in 2016. In 2015, she received OSLA/OSLCA Academic All-Ohio.
She joins the ONU Women's Lacrosse team as a midfielder and will be studying Forensic Biology.
Hailey Green, a Michigan native, attended South Lyon High School.
She has been playing lacrosse for seven years, was a 3-year varsity starter for South Lyon.
In 2015 Green won the All State Academic Player Award. She is a strong defender and will be able to make an immediate impact for the program.
She joins ONU women's lacrosse as a defender and will be studying Accounting.
Betsy Naugle joins the women's lacrosse program from Moon Township, Pa.
During her high school lacrosse career, she scored 100+ goals and tallied 100+ assists.
Naugle is a US Lacrosse Academic All-American, an All-Section and All-Conference Player (WPIAL), Western Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association Junior Official of the Year and was voted ProGrass First in Turf Athlete of the Month by MSA sports.
Betsy, a 4-year varsity letterwinner in high school, was also part of Intrepid Elite, the first elite lacrosse club for girls. She played on the team all four years and received the Intrepid Lacrosse Club Leadership Excellence Award.
Naugle joins Northern as a Biology major.
Whitney Jones-Downs arrives to Ohio Northern from Santana High School in Murrieta, Cal.
In high school, she was a 2-year varsity starter as a goalie, 3-year elite starter and two time recipient of the coach's award.
Whitney will be majoring in Psychology
Chryssa Soures was a defender at Webster Thomas High School in Webster, N.Y. and was a member of the Lady Roc lacrosse club.
Chrysa was also a member of her schools ice hockey team. Chrysa is strong on the ball and pressures well.
Soures will be majoring in Nursing with a minor in Psychology.
Kelli Hill comes to Northern from Thomas Worthington High School, where she was a Scholar Athlete all four years.
Her junior and senior year she received 2nd Team All-State and 1st Team All-District honors.
Hill was nominated as a team captain and was named the team's Most Valuable Player after being named an All-American in 2016.
Kelli will be majoring in Biology.
Jacqui Lohman was a four year member of the Lakota East women's lacrosse team. She was also a member of Velocity's Elite travel team.
Jacqui was a Student Link Leader at her high school for two years, and was inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS) from 2014-2016.
Lohman will be majoring in Civil Engineering.
Ann McArn, a three sport captain (soccer, basketball and lacrosse) at Western Reserve Academy, was a four year starter on the lacrosse team where she garnered All-Midwest Player recognition, was slated the team's Most Valuable Player, and was selected to the All-Tournament Team during the MSLA Tournament and was All-District Honorable Mention.
Annie is also a member of the Ohio Northern women's soccer team and is majoring in Pharmacy.
Olivia Starcher has been playing lacrosse for nine years and was a four year varsity member at Hilliard Davidson High School.
Starcher received Rookie of the Year honors and was a Scholar Athlete for three years at Hilliard Davidson.
Olivia is majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
Katie McCourt was a four year member of the lacrosse team at Magnificat High School.
An extremely quick and smart player, McCourt will look to make an immediate impact for the Polar Bears.
McCourt will be majoring in Pharmacy.
Anna Govelitz comes to Northern after attending St. Vincent's Academy and playing for Richmond Hill Lacrosse Club.
She was voted captain her final year and received the Coach's and Captain's award.
Anna is majoring in Exercise Physiology.
"We are excited to welcome this group to the team," said head coach Beth Hemminger. "We are definitely headed in the right direction and these girls are going to help us get to the next level. They really compliment the returners well and are challenging them as well. This is a very young team again, but they are hungry for success."
