Women's Basketball notches 65-59 Senior Day victory over Marietta

ADA — Senior Brooke Allen (Woodville/Woodmore) led the Ohio Northern women's basketball team to a 65-59 win over Marietta on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (16-7 Overall, 12-4 OAC), Marietta (14-9 Overall, 8-8 OAC).
- Venue: ONU Sports Center — Ada, Ohio.
The Game
- Allen had 14 points and led the team with seven rebounds.
- Junior Mackenzie Suprano (Cutler/Waterford) also had a team-high seven rebounds and added 10 points.
- Fifth-year senior Kristen Luersman (Fort Jennings) scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.
- Senior Abby Dickson (Germantown/Valley View) also had 10 points and a team-high five steals.
- Senior Abi Akamine (Lahaina, Hawaii/Lahainaluna) led the team with five assists and pitched in eight points.
- Adi Hill led Marietta with 18 points.
- Northern led 15-14 after a close first quarter with seven lead changes.
- The second quarter started back-and-forth with four more lead changes, until Allen made a 3-pointer with 5:31 left in the quarter to go up 24-19, giving the Polar Bears their biggest lead of the game so far.
- ONU led 28-25 at halftime.
- Northern extended their lead to as many as 10 during the third quarter and led 48-42 going into the fourth quarter.
- Ohio Northern made 20-of-49 field goals for 40.8 percent and was 7-of-16 from beyond the arc for 43.8 percent, while Marietta was 21-of-60 from the floor for 35.0 percent and finished 6-of-16 on 3-pointers for 37.5 percent.
- The Polar Bears made 18-of-26 free throws for 69.2 percent and the Pioneers were 11-of-12 from the line for 91.7 percent.
- ONU out-rebounded MC 41-28.

- Ohio Northern is now 66-22 all-time against Marietta, including a 40-5 record in Ada.
- The Polar Bears have clinched a spot in the 6-team OAC Tournament Feb. 25-Mar. 1.
- Luersman is now 8th in ONU history with 656 career rebounds. She also has scored 820 points in 99 career games.
- Allen leads the OAC in field goal percentage at 57.9 percent.
- This is the 53rd season of Ohio Northern women's basketball. The Polar Bears are now 775-515 all-time in program history for a winning percentage of .601.
- Fifth-year head coach Mark Huelsman is now 84-38 at Ohio Northern, a winning percentage of .689.
