Women's Basketball defeats OAC opponent John Carroll 71-54 at home on Alumni Day.

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's basketball team earned its seventh straight win with a 71-54 victory over John Carroll on Saturday afternoon on Alumni Day.

The Basics

• Records: Ohio Northern (12-5 Overall, 8-2 OAC), John Carroll (13-4 Overall, 7-3 OAC).
• Venue: ONU Sports Center — Ada, Ohio.

The Game

• Junior Mackenzie Suprano (Cutler/Waterford) led the Polar Bears with 14 points and 9 rebounds.
• Senior Abi Akamine (Lahaina, Hawaii/Lahainaluna) and sophomore Chloee Glenn (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) each added 12 points for the Polar Bears.
• Akamine also dished out a team-high 5 assists
• Senior Brooke Allen (Woodville/Woodmore) added another 10 points. 
• Senior Abby Dickson (Germantown/Valley View) pitched in 9 points with 3 three-pointers. 
• Abigail Rosol led John Carroll with 18 points off the bench.
• Northern started hot on a 6-0 run in the first 2:16 of the game.
• ONU would close the final 3:38 of the quarter on an 8-3 run to take a 20-11 lead at the end of the first.
• The Polar Bears would go on another 6-0 run in the first 6:01 of the 2nd quarter pushing the lead to 26-11. 
• Northern led 37-21 at halftime.
• At the end of the third quarter, the Polar Bears led 56-37.
• With 2:24 left JCU would cut the ONU lead down to 67-54, but a made layup by Suprano with :45 seconds left would put the game out of reach. 
• Ohio Northern made 29-of-58 field goals for 50.0 percent and was 10-of-32 from beyond the arc for 31.3percent, while John Carroll was 22-of-57 from the floor for 38.6 percent and finished 5-of-18 on 3-pointers for 27.8 percent.
• The Polar Bears made 3-of-8 free throws for 37.5 percent and the Blue Streaks were 5-of-7 from the line for 71.4 percent.
• ONU out-rebounded JCU 41-26.

• Ohio Northern is now 50-32 all-time against John Carroll, including a 25-11 record in Ada.
• Fifth-year senior Kristen Luersman (Fort Jennings) is now 9th in ONU history with 632 career rebounds. She also has scored 776 points in 93 career games.
• This is the 53rd season of Ohio Northern women's basketball. The Polar Bears are now 771-513 all-time in program history for a winning percentage of .600.
• Fifth-year head coach Mark Huelsman is now 80-36 at Ohio Northern, a winning percentage of .690.
