Women's Basketball earns sixth straight win with 62-37 victory over Heidelberg

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's basketball team earned its sixth straight win with a 62-37 victory over Heidelberg on Wednesday evening.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (11-5 Overall, 7-2 OAC), Heidelberg (2-14 Overall, 1-8 OAC).
- Venue: ONU Sports Center — Ada, Ohio.
The Game
- Senior Brooke Allen (Woodville/Woodmore) led the Polar Bears with 10 points and eight rebounds.
- Senior Abi Akamine (Lahaina, Hawaii/Lahainaluna), junior Noelle Ruane (St. Marys) and sophomore Chloee Glenn (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) each added eight points for the Polar Bears.
- Ruane led ONU with four assists.
- Sophomore Courtney Sumner (Ada) had a team-high six steals and added five points.
- Ashley Ballard and Morgan Altenburger led Heidelberg with seven points each.
- Northern went on a 9-0 run in the first quarter, including six points from Glenn, to lead 15-5 with 2:32 left in the first.
- ONU led 17-7 at the end of the first quarter.
- Two layups from Allen in the second quarter started a 13-0 run for the Polar Bears to make the game 31-11 with 2:04 left in the half.
- Northern led 31-15 at halftime.
- At the end of the third quarter, the Polar Bears led 49-24.
- Ohio Northern made 25-of-71 field goals for 35.2 percent and was 4-of-23 from beyond the arc for 17.4 percent, while Heidelberg was 12-of-44 from the floor for 27.3 percent and finished 3-of-12 on 3-pointers for 25.0 percent.
- The Polar Bears made 8-of-13 free throws for 61.5 percent and the Student Princes were 10-of-12 from the line for 83.3 percent.
- HU out-rebounded ONU 41-39.

- Ohio Northern is now 63-26 all-time against Heidelberg, including a 34-11 record in Ada.
- Luersman is now 9th in ONU history with 626 career rebounds. She also has scored 771 points in 92 career games.
- This is the 53rd season of Ohio Northern women's basketball. The Polar Bears are now 770-513 all-time in program history for a winning percentage of .600.
- Fifth-year head coach Mark Huelsman is now 79-36 at Ohio Northern, a winning percentage of .687.
