Akamine dishes out a school record 10 assists, Allen scores a career-high 22 points as Women's Basketball wins at Marietta 71-63

MARIETTA — Senior Abi Akamine (Lahaina, Hawaii/Lahainaluna) dished out a career-high 10 assists and senior Brooke Allen (Woodville/Woodmore) poured in a career-high 22 points and had her sixth career double-double to lead the Ohio Northern women's basketball team to a 66-56 victory at Marietta on Sunday afternoon.

- Allen finished 22 points and a season-best 12 rebounds to go with two assists and a blocked shot.

- Northern jumped out to a 15-6 lead in the first seven minutes and did not trail in the game.
- ONU was ahead 19-13 after the first period, 35-28 at halftime and 49-45 after three quarters.
- The Pioneers scored first in the fourth period to pull within 49-47 with 9:40 to play in the game.
- Freshman Courtney Sumner (Ada) would hit three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to extend ONU's lead to 55-49 with 7:51 remaining.
- The lead was 60-55 with 5:18 left when the Polar Bear defense took control, holding the Pioneers scoreless for the next 4:24.
- During that span, Akamine hit a three and Allen got a putback to increase the lead to 65-55.
- Ohio Northern made 26-of-67 field goals for 38.8 percent and was 8-of-21 from beyond the arc for 38.1 percent, while Marietta was 20-of-60 from the floor for 33.3 percent and finished 6-of-24 on 3-pointers for 25.0 percent.
- The Polar Bears made 11-of-24 free throws for 45.8 percent and the Pioneers were 17-of-22 from the line for 77.3 percent.
