Women's Basketball falls at No. 10-ranked Ohio Wesleyan 63-38 in Ohio Wesleyan Classic

DELAWARE — The Ohio Northern women's basketball team fell to No. 10-ranked Ohio Wesleyan 63-38 on the last day of the Ohio Wesleyan Classic on Tuesday afternoon.
The Basics

The Game
- Senior Abi Akamine (Lahaina, Hawaii/Lahainaluna) led the team with nine points and had two assists and two steals.
- Fifth-year senior Kristen Luersman (Fort Jennings) and sophomore Chloee Glenn (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) both had a team-high seven rebounds and added five points each.
- Sophomore Courtney Sumner (Ada) also added five points.
- Ohio Wesleyan was led by Kasey Schipfer with 18 points.
- OWU jumped out to an early lead and led 16-7 at the end of the first quarter.
- Akamine had five of ONU's seven points in the first quarter.
- Schipfer scored six quick points for the Battling Bishops to start the second quarter, but the Polar Bears held OWU scoreless for the last 8:18 of the half and scored eight points to cut into their lead and make it 22-15 at halftime.
- OWU went 3-for-3 from the three-point line in the third quarter to extend their lead to 41-27 at the end of the third.
- The Battling Bishops made four more 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
- Ohio Northern made 15-of-54 field goals for 27.8 percent and was 2-of-22 from beyond the arc for 9.1 percent, while Ohio Wesleyan was 25-of-61 from the floor for 41.0 percent and finished 7-of-16 on 3-pointers for 43.8 percent.
- The Polar Bears made 6-of-9 free throws for 66.7 percent and the Battling Bishops were 6-of-7 from the line for 85.7 percent.
- OWU out-rebounded ONU 42-35.
