Women's Basketball opens OAC play with 58-38 win over John Carroll

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's basketball team opened Ohio Athletic Conference play with a resounding 58-38 win over John Carroll on Saturday afternoon.
The Basics

The Game
- The Polar Bears produced a balanced scoring effort led by nine points each from fifth-year senior Brynn Serbin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and junior Brooke Allen (Woodville/Woodmore). Serbin added seven rebounds and four steals, and Allen tallied six rebounds.
- Junior Layla Dials (Willard) posted eight points and a team-high nine rebounds for ONU, and sophomore Mackenzie Suprano (Cutler/Waterford) added eight points and four rebounds.
- Bella Carcioppolo led the Blue Streaks in scoring with 10 points.
- ONU led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter before outscoring JCU 12-7 in the second to take a 26-20 halftime edge.
- Northern continued pulling away in the third quarter, holding the Blue Streaks to 2-of-12 shooting (16.7%) from the field and outscoring them 18-5. Suprano led the way for ONU in the period with six points.
- The Polar Bears led 44-25 going into the fourth quarter en route to the 20-point victory.
- Ohio Northern made 20-of-69 field goals for 29% and was 2-of-18 from beyond the arc for 11.1%, while JCU was 12-of-54 from the floor for 22.2% and made 4-of-16 3-pointers for 25%.
- ONU hade 16-of-25 free throws for 64%, and JCU was 10-of-15 from the line for 66.7%.
- The Polar Bears out-rebounded the Bishops 61-37, and both teams had 18 turnovers.
- ONU finished with a 32-12 edge in points in the paint and 28-6 in bench points.

- Serbin is 26 made field goals away from breaking into the top 20 of the program's all-time list in that category.
- Fourth-year head coach Mark Huelsman is now 51-24 at Ohio Northern.
