No. 10 Women's Basketball gets 82-62 victory over Anderson (Ind.) in home opener

ADA — The 10th-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team cruised to an 82-62 victory over Anderson (Ind.) on Wednesday night in the Polar Bears' 2023-24 home opener.

The Game
- Junior Abi Akamine (Lahaina, Hawaii/Lahainaluna) led ONU in scoring with 13 points.
- Senior Brynn Serbin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) finished with 10 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals.
- Sophomore Mackenzie Suprano (Cutler/Waterford) scored 10 points off the bench.
- Junior Brooke Allen (Woodville/Woodmore) finished with a team-high seven rebounds for ONU.
- Bella Larrison led Anderson in scoring with 14 points.
- ONU led 17-15 at the end of the first quarter and opened the second period on a 6-0 run with layups from Allen, Serbin and sophomore Noelle Ruane (St. Marys) for a 23-15 edge. A 3-pointer from junior Jada Benjamin (Parma/Valley Forge) made it 28-17 with 5:36 left in the opening half.
- Ruane closed the second quarter with a buzzer-beating layup to send the Polar Bears into halftime leading 35-24.
- Serbin drained a 3-pointer with 9:05 left in the third quarter, and Akamine followed with a layup to put ONU up 42-27 en route to the 20-point victory.
- Ohio Northern made 32-of-67 field goals for 47.8% and was 9-of-22 from beyond the arc for 40.9%, while Anderson was 24-of-68 from the floor for 35.3% and made 6-of-28 3-pointers for 21.4%.
- ONU hade 9-of-12 free throws for 75%, and AU was 8-of-12 from the line for 66.7%.
- The Polar Bears out-rebounded the Ravens 50-33 and finsihed with a 23-9 edge in assists.
Notables
- Serbin is ONU's all-time leader in career steals with 228 and ranks third in program history with 305 career assists.
- Serbin ranks 19th on ONU's all-time career scoring list with 941 points. She ranks fifth all-time with 134 made 3-pointers in her career.
- Serbin is 12 rebounds, 41 made field goals and one made free throw away from breaking into the top 20 of the program's all-time lists in those categories.
- The Polar Bears are ranked 10th nationally in both the WBCA and D3hoops.com polls.
- Fourth-year head coach Mark Huelsman is now 50-22 at Ohio Northern.
