ADA — The Ohio Northern women's basketball team opened its 2021-22 season with a 67-55 victory over Anderson (Ind.) on Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears improve to 1-0, while the Ravens fall to 0-2.
Northern was led by senior Annie Weckesser (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne) with a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds — both career highs — and senior Jaidyn Hale (Lima/Bath) and junior Brynn Serbin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) with 10 points each.
Serbin added five assists and four steals to her stat line, while Hale had three assists and two steals.
The Ravens were led by Payton Moore with 12 points, while Lexi Dellinger had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Ohio Northern jumped out to a quick 22-11 lead after the first quarter and held a commanding 41-17 lead at intermission.
AU used an 18-9 third quarter to pull with 50-35 after three periods.
The Polar Bears will return to action next Friday and Saturday when they compete at the Juniata (Pa.) Tournament.
