Women’s Basketball opens 2010-11 season with win at Transylvania (Ky.) in the Sodexho Classic

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Ohio Northern women's basketball team started the 2010-11 season on a high note with a 66-58 win in the Sodexho Classic over host Transylvania (Ky.) Friday evening at the Beck Center.
The Polar Bears (1-0) trailed very early in the contest, but tied the score at 10-10 with a shot by sophomore Morgan Dumbaugh at the 14:18 mark.
A Katelyn Jones jumper gave ONU the lead and started an 8-0 run that was capped off by a Jeanne Bockey layup.
Northern had as much as a 16-point lead in the first half before heading into the locker room at halftime with the scoreboard at 36-20.
Early in the second half, ONU jumped out to a 43-23 lead on a made jumper by Katie Mengos. The Polar Bears would keep a double-digit lead until midway through the second half.
A layup by the Pioneers' Caroline Wilson started to close the scoring gap, 46-38. Minutes later, a jumper by Angel Lucus would pull the Pioneers to within one point (46-45) of the Polar Bears' lead.
Transylvania (1-1) would pull to within one point of the lead with four minutes remaining in the game but ONU would keep the Pioneers at bay for the eventual win.
Bockey tied the game-high with 18 points, and also tallied eight rebounds. Junior Kara Dysert recorded her first double-double of the season on 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Dumbaugh put up 12 points and took away a game-high three steals.
The Pioneers had four players with double-digit scoring, including Holly Milburn who tied for a game-high 18 points. Shayla Black had 13 points, followed by Lucas and Olivia Akridge with 11 points each.
Ohio Northern closes out the Sodexho Classic Saturday afternoon with a 1 p.m. game against Hanover (Ind.).
