Meet Preview: The Ohio Northern men's cross country team is competing in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championships on Saturday at Three Fires Golf Club in Holland, Mich. … Hope (Mich.) is hosting the meet … The men's 8K race begins at 12 p.m. … The first-place finishing team will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships in East Lansing, Mich., along with the top teams in the other nine regionals, and 22 at-large bids will be awarded … The top seven individuals from each region not on a team qualifying for the national meet will receive an individual bid to the NCAA Division III Championships as well … A total of 294 competitors (32 teams of seven competitors each and 70 individuals) will qualify for the national meet … The top 35 finishers will be named to the All-Region Team … The Polar Bears have two first-place finishes as part of four top-five finishes overall this season and have placed in the top half of the standings at all six of their varsity meets … Northern is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on Oct. 29, scoring 107 points … Junior Kyle Roth led the Polar Bears, finishing 13th of 159 runners with a time of 26:58.0 on the 8,000-meter course … Roth earned Second Team All-OAC honors along with junior Breydan Hann, who placed 16th with a time of 27:07.3 … ONU placed seventh of 37 teams at the 2021 Great Lakes Regional Championships in Shelbyville, Ind. … Northern's top returning runner from that meet is Hann, who placed 54th with a time of 26:10.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is in his 14th year as head coach of the ONU men's and women's cross country teams and is the winningest coach in school history for both programs … Over 13 seasons at ONU, he has guided the men's team to a 1,350-363 record, a winning percentage of .788, and four OAC titles and the women's team to a 1,159-468 record, a winning percentage of .712, and three OAC championships.
