Men's Cross Country finishes fifth at OAC Championships

NEW CONCORD — The Ohio Northern men's cross country team finished fifth out of the 10 teams at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at the Muskingum Cross Country Course on Saturday afternoon. 

The Polar Bears (82-29 overall) scored 107 points behind team champion No. 17 John Carroll with 40 points, No. 19 Otterbein with 70 points, No. 28 Wilmington with 77 points and No. 35 Mount Union with 79 points. 

Juniors Kyle Roth (Rockford/Parkway) and Breydan Hann (Wooster) led the pack of Polar Bears finishing in 13th and 16th place of 159 runners on the 8,000-meter course with times of 26:58.0 and 27:07.3, respectively. Their finishing places earned them All-OAC honors.

Sophomore Ryan Massie (Beavercreek) ran a time of 27:28.1, and junior Jared Swartz (Columbia Station/Columbia) ran a time of 27:28.8 to finish in 25th and 26th, respectively. 

Sophomore Trey Masterson (Tiffin/Hopewell-Loudon) was 30th in 27:39.2, junior Braden Schaser (Fostoria/Lakota) was 36th in 27:52.0 and junior Aaron Guzman (Lebanon) was 39th in 27:57.9 to round out the Polar Bears' top seven finishers. 

Junior Alex Philip of John Carroll won the individual title in 25:06.2, taking home back-to-back OAC Champion honors.

The top 10 runners earned First Team All-OAC honors with runners 11-20 earning Second Team All-OAC honors.

Ohio Northern will compete next on Nov. 12 in the Great Lakes Regional at Holland, Michigan.
