ONU Race Notes: Ohio Northern enters Saturday ranked No. 6 in the Great Lakes Region behind John Carroll, Otterbein, Calvin (Mich.), Depauw (Ind.) and Case Western Reserve … The Polar Bears are sending 14 men to E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky., to compete against runners from across the U.S. in the 20th Annual Live in Lou Cross Country Classic … The men's race is 8,000 meters … The men's Blue Race (Open) begins at 10:45 a.m., and the men's Silver Race (Pre-Nationals) begins at 12 p.m. … ONU will have runners in both races … Northern placed 21st of 40 teams the last time it competed in the Louisville Classic in 2019 ... The Polar Bears' varsity runners last competed in the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville on Sept. 17, where they placed fourth of 11 NCAA Division III teams … Senior Patrick Baker led the Polar Bears with a 16th-place finish of 95 Division III runners in 26:47 on the 8,000-meter course ... Freshman Trey Masterson was 21st in 27:06, sophomore Ian Ackenhausen was 24th in 27:18, sophomore Braden Schaser was 27th in 27:26, sophomore Kyle Roth was 28th in 27:38, junior Breydan Hann was 41st in 28:22, junior Billy Driemeyer was 43rd in 28:23, senior Dylan McKean was 50th in 28:48, and senior Travis Sutter was 54th in 28:53 … Junior varsity runners competed in last Friday's Findlay Invitational, where ONU placed fifth … Sophomore Aaron Guzman led the Polar Bears with a 27th-place finish out of 107 runners with a time of 26:54.83 and earned Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is in his 13th season as head coach of the men's cross country team … In 12 seasons at ONU, he has guided the men's cross country teams to a 1,174-295 record, a .799 win percentage, and four Ohio Athletic Conference crowns, while the women's cross country teams have compiled a 974-418 record, a .700 win percentage, and three OAC titles … Maus currently stands as the all-time winningest coach in Ohio Northern school history for both men's and women's cross-country.
