Men's Cross Country opens 2021 campaign with second place finish at own Polar Bear Invitational

ADA — The Ohio Northern men's cross country team competed for the first time in nearly two years, opening its 2021 season with a solid second place finish at the Polar Bear Invitational on a beautiful Saturday afternoon on the ONU campus.
The race marked the first competition Since Nov. 16, 2019, as the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was the first home contest for the Polar Bears since Sept. 1, 2012.
Senior Patrick Baker (Massillon/Jackson) and junior Billy Driemeyer (House Springs, Mo./Lindbergh) led Ohio Northern (3-1 overall) on the 6,000-meter course, finishing fourth in 18:58 and fifth in 18:59 out of 95 runners, respectively.
Freshman Trey Masterson (Findlay/Hopewell-Loudon) was 11th in 19:13, sophomore Kyle Roth (Rockford/Parkway) was 13th in 19:16 and junior Breydan Hann (Wooster) was 17th in 19:22.
Findlay won the team title with 41 points, Ohio Northern was second with 45 points, Tiffin was third with 67 points, a team of ONU alumni was fourth with 98 points and Heidelberg was fifth with 113 points.
Noah Fisher of Findlay was the first collegian to cross the finish line in 18:12.
Northern returns to competition Sept. 17 at the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville.
