ADA —The Ohio Northern men were picked to finish third and the women second in the 2013 Ohio Athletic Conference Cross Country Coaches Polls.
The Polar Bear men received 72 points and two first place votes and trail league favorite and defending champion Mount Union by just two points.
John Carroll received five first place votes, but is in third with 71 points.
The ONU women received 67 points and two first place votes and are the three-time defending OAC Champions.
Mount Union is the preseason favorite to win the title with 77 points and five first place votes, while John Carroll is second with 73 points and three first place votes.
"It is nice to be picked as one of the top teams in the league," ONU head coach Jason Maus said. "But our goals remain the same this year as they are every year: to win the OAC title and compete at the NCAA Championships. No one has raced yet, so the polls really mean nothing. We are just excited to get the season started."
Both Ohio Northern squads will open their 2013 season on Saturday at the Bluffton Invitational. The men's race begins at 10 am with the women's following at 10:45 am.
