Boothby breaks 27-year old record in the 100 as Men's Track and Field opens outdoor season with fifth place finish at Cedarville Open

CEDARVILLE — Sophomore C.J. Boothby (Milford/Clermont Northeastern) broke the school record in the 100, leading the Ohio Northern men's track and field team to a fifth place finish at the season-opening Cedarville Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open meet on Saturday.

- Record: Ohio Northern (14-4-1 Overall).
- Venue: Yellow Jacket Track and Field Complex - Cedarville, Ohio.
Meet Results
- Ohio Northern finished tied for fifth of 20 teams with 46 points.
- Ashland won the team title with 143.5 points, Cedarville was second with 91.5 points and Davenport (Mich.) was third with 87 points.
- The meet consisted of 18 events, including eight field events, 10 running events and two relays.
Top ONU Performers - Cedarville
- Boothby had an outstanding day to lead the Polar Bears.
- He broke the school record in the 100-meter dash with a :10.52 clocking, winning his heat and finishing second in the event.
- Boothby then finished third in the javelin with a career-best toss of 54.68 meters.
- He was also part of ONU's winning 4x100 relay team, combining with junior Brett Greer (Mentor), senior All-American Jordan Dean (Cleveland/Villa Angela Saint Joseph) and freshman Dylan Dowell (Mount Vernon) to win in :40.77.
- The 4x400 relay team of Dean, junior Zach O'Neill (Holland/Maumee Valley Country Day), sophomore Grant Conn (Medina/Buckeye) and senior Ross Schlatter (Curtice/Genoa) won in 3:15.55.
- Schlatter was also third in the 400 in :48.95.
- Sophomore Jack Martinez (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) was sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.89 meters.
- Junior Zach O'Neill (Holland/Maumee Valley Country Day) was seventh in the 400 in a PR of :49.65.
- Senior Bo Little (Washington Court House/Miami Trace) was eighth in the 800 in 1:57.88.
- Junior Connor Robbins (Marion/River Valley) was ninth in the shot put in a career-best 14.34 meters.
- Freshman Gavin Miller (Fostoria) was ninth in the high jump with a PR of 1.90 meters.
Top ONU Performers - Washington (Mo.)
- Senior Trey Masterson (Tiffin/Hopewell-Loudon) led a contingent of four Polar Bears that competed in the 5,000 run on Friday at the Washington (Mo.) Distance Carnival.
- Masterson finished 36th out of 346 runners in 14:38.48.
Notables
- Boothby's :10.52 mark broke the previous record of :10.57 set by Matt Wolf in 1998.
- His 179' 4" toss in the javelin moves into third place in school history in the event.
- Robbins is now 10th all-time in the shot put at 47' .75".
- The 4x100 relay team's :40.77 is the third-fastest time in school history.
- The 4x400 relay mark of 3:15.55 is the school's fourth-fastest time.
- Head Coach Jason Maus is in his 16th year at Ohio Northern and is 579-158-3 in men's outdoor track and field for a winning percentage of .784.
