Jordan Dean breaks 400 record, leads Men's Indoor Track and Field at Ashland Open

ASHLAND — Senior Jordan Dean (Cleveland/Villa Angela-Saint Joseph) broke his own school record in the 400-meter dash to lead the Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team at the Ashland Open on Friday and Saturday.

- U.S. Olympian and former Ashland All-American Trevor Bassitt competed in the 60 hurdles and 400 dashes.
Top ONU Performers
- Dean was second of 31 runners in the 400 in :47.99, shaving .34 of a second off his previous record of :48.33 set last March.
- Freshman Dylan Dowell (Mount Vernon) was seventh out of 53 in the long jump with a leap of 6.71 meters.
- The distance medley relay team of senior Ryan Massie (Beavercreek), freshman Roman Medley (Piqua), sophomore Vova Herdman (Seville/Cloverleaf) and senior Trey Masterson (Tiffin/Hopewell-Loudon) were ninth in 10:10.59.
- Freshman Luke Lazarich (Celina) was 20th of 53 in the 60 hurdles in 8.77 seconds.
- Massie and Masterson each posted top-10 finishes in the 79-man mile run. Massie was 19th in 4:20.66 and Masterson was right behind in 4:20.80.
- Fifth-year senior Trey Myers (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne) was 19th of 108 runners in the 800 in 1:55.76.
- Senior Cooper Koch (Waynesville) was 17th in the weight throw at 15.46m, followed in 19th by junior Connor Robbins (Marion/River Valley) at 15.34m.
- Junior Nathan Carnevale (Beavercreek/Carroll) was 18th in the triple jump at 12.25m.
- Sophomore Orion Gonzalez (Fostoria/St. John's Jesuit) was 20th in the pole vault by clearing 4.00 meters.
- The 4x400 relay team of sophomores Grant Conn (Medina/Buckeye Senior), sophomore Carter Byers (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange), sophomore Jacob Wakefield (Wooster/Northwestern) and Myers finished 12th of 25 teams in 3:28.18.
- Junior Jacob Clouse (Alvada/New Riegel) was 29th of 83 runners in the 800 in 8:45.76.
- Herdman was 32nd of 108 in the 800 in 1:57.18.
Notables
- Dean became the first Polar Bear to break 48 seconds in the 400 indoors. He competed in the 400-meter dash 'Sub :50' portion of the event.
- The DMR time of 10:10.59 is the third-fastest in ONU history.
- Herdman moved into 10th place on ONU's all-time 800 list.
- Clouse is now 10th all-time at ONU in the 800.
- Dowell's long jump of 22'.25" is his personal best.
- Head Coach Jason Maus is in his 16th year at Ohio Northern and is 682-160 in men's indoor track and field for a winning percentage of .810.
