Boothby earns All-OAC accolades, helps Men's Outdoor Track and Field into fifth place after Day 1 of OAC Championships

TIFFIN — Ohio Northern is in fifth place after the first day of the 2024 Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hoernemann Stadium on Thursday.

- The meet consisted of finals for seven of the 21 events in the two-day meet and prelims of the five sprint/hurdle events.
- Ohio Northern is tied for fifth place with Marietta in the 10-team field with 25 points.
- Mount Union and Otterbein are tied for first with 55 points each. Baldwin Wallace is third with 33 points and John Carroll is fourth with 29 points.
Top ONU Performers
- Freshman C.J. Boothby (Milford/Clermont Northeastern) earned All-OAC honors with a third place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.99 meters.
- Boothby also finished fifth in the javelin with a toss of 49.36 meters.
- Freshman Grant Butler (Marion/River Valley) (6.78 meters, seventh) and sophomore Stephen Mangira (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) (6.68 meters, eighth) also scored points in the event.
- In the discus, junior Cooper Koch (Waynesville) was fifth with a toss of 42.13 meters, senior Tommy Vetrovsky (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) was sixth at 41.98 meters and sophomore Evan Gomez (Farmington, N.M.) was eighth at 41.41 meters.
- The 4x800 relay team of juniors Bo Little (Washington Court House/Miami Trace) and Ryan Massie (Washington Court House/Miami Trace), sophomore Jacob Clouse (Alvada / New Riegel) and senior Trey Myers (DaytonChaminade-Julienne) were fifth in 7:48.43.
Notables
- Boothby's 6.99m long jump is his PR and moves him into seventh on ONU's all-time career list.
- His javelin throw of 49.36 meters was also a PR for Boothby.
- Butler (6.78m) and Mangira (6.68m) both had personal bests in the long jump.
- Vetrovsky had a PR in the discus.
- Head Coach Jason Maus is in his 15th year at Ohio Northern and is 558-148 in men's outdoor track and field for a winning percentage of .790.
