Dean wins 400 in record-breaking fashion to lead Men's Indoor Track and Field on Day 1 of OAC Indoor Championships

NEW CONCORD — Junior Jordan Dean (Cleveland/Villa St Angela) broke the school and conference records in the 400-meter dash, winning the Ohio Athletic Conference title in the process, to lead the Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team on Day 1 of the 2024 OAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday.

Top ONU Performers
- Dean won the 400 in :48.40, shaving .41 of a second off his previous school record of 48.81.
- Senior Brandon Wise (Goshen, Ind./Concord) was seventh in the pole vault, clearing 4.26 meters.
- Senior Trey Myers (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne) placed fourth in the 500-meter dash, finishing in 1:05.78.
- Junior Trey Masterson (Tiffin/Hopewell-Loudon) was fifth in the 5,000, finishing in 14:59.62.
- Senior Keegan Digby (Bowling Green/Otsego) was fourth in the weight throw with a personal-best toss of 18.18 meters.
- Senior Tommy Vetrovsky (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) was sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 17.00 meters.
- The men's distance medley relay team of junior J.T. Basco (Painesville/Harvey), freshman Grant Conn (Medina/Buckeye Senior), junior Bo Little (Washington Court House/Miami Trace) and junior Corey Rinehart (Galena/Olentangy Berlin) finished eighth in 10:47.89.
- Junior Tyrese Barker (Columbus/Bishop Hartley) qualified as the top seed for the finals in the 60 hurdles in :08.34.
- Freshman C.J. Boothby (Milford/Clermont Northeastern) qualified for the finals of Saturday's 60-meter dash with a prelim effort of :06.95, which was second in his heat and fifth overall.
Notables
- The meet consisted of 19 events, 10 individual running events, six field events and three running relays.
- The top three finishers in each event ean All-Conference honors.
- Seven of the events were completed on Friday, with the remaining 12 to be contested on Saturday.
- Friday's events also consisted of the prelims for the 60 dash and 60 hurdles.
- Dean's effort in the 400 also shaved .44 off the previous OAC record of 48.84 set last year.
- As Muskingum's track is flat, Dean's time converts to 47.64 on a banked track which puts him sixth nationally.
- Digby's effort in the weight throw moves him into 18th place nationally and gets him to within 5.5 inches of the school record.
- Boothby's 6.95 in the 60 is just .01 of a second off his school record 6.94, set earlier this season.
- Wise was just one centimeter off his personal best of 4.27 meters in the pole vault.
- Head Coach Jason Maus is now 651-155 at ONU for men's indoor track and field with a winning percentage of .808.
