Five Polar Bears named to College Sports Communicators Men’s Track and Field and Cross Country Academic All-District Team

ADA — Ohio Northern seniors Brooks Blakeley (Versailles) and Breydan Hann (Wooster), junior Kyle Roth (Rockford/Parkway) and sophomores Ryan Massie (Beavercreek) and Trey Masterson (Tiffin/Hopewell Loudon) were named to the 2022-23 Men's Track and Field and Cross Country Academic All-District Team by College Sports Communicators.
All five student-athletes are members of both the cross country and track and field teams at ONU.
To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, each student-athlete must have a GPA of at least 3.50 and must have competed in at least 50 percent of his team's events during the season.
A middle childhood education major, Blakeley ran a personal-best 27:15 in cross country in 2022 and ranks ninth all-time at ONU indoors in the mile (4:21.31) in track and field. He earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference recognition as a member of the outdoor 4x800 relay team in 2022 and is a four-time Academic All-OAC honoree across both sports.
Hann earned All-OAC honors with a 16th-place finish at the 2022 OAC Cross Country Championships and owns a career-best time of 25:29. At the Great Lakes Regionals, he placed 54th overall in 2021 and 66th in 2022. In track and field, he ranks seventh all-time at ONU outdoors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:31.55). The manufacturing technology major is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic and Academic All-OAC honoree across both sports.
Roth joined Hann as a 2022 All-OAC honoree in cross country, placing a team-best 13th at the OAC Championships. He also led the Polar Bears across the finish line at the Great Lakes Region Championships with a 47th-place showing. His career-best time of 25:18 was a team best for 2022, and it ranks 18th all-time at ONU. In track and field, he ranks fifth all-time at ONU outdoors in the 10,000 meters (31:27.30). The marketing major earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors in 2022 and is a two-time Academic All-OAC selection.
Massie owns a personal-best time of 25:27 in cross country, ranks sixth all-time at ONU indoors in the mile (4:17.73) and ninth in the 3,000 meters (8:46.17) and eighth all-time at ONU outdoors in the 1,500 (3:55.72). In cross country, he finished 25th at the OAC Championships and 63rd at the Great Lakes Regionals before adding an All-OAC accolade as a member of ONU's distance medley relay team at the 2023 OAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. He also earned All-OAC recognition in the outdoor 4x800 relay in 2022. The computer engineering major was a 2022 USTFCCCA All-Academic and Academic All-OAC honoree in cross country.
Masterson has a personal-best time of 25:32 in cross country and owns top-10 all-time marks in six events at ONU in track and field. Indoors, he ranks second in the 3,000 (8:20.23) and 5,000 (14:36.01) and seventh in the mile (4:18.37). Outdoors, he ranks third in the 5,000 (14:25.46), sixth in the 1,500 (3:55.41) and eighth in the 10,000 (31:42.66). In 2022, Masterson placed 30th at the OAC Championships and 72nd at the Great Lakes Regionals and was an Academic All-OAC selection. The civil engineering major earned USTFCCCA All-Region accolades in the indoor 3,000 and outdoor 5,000 and was an All-OAC honoree in the indoor 5,000 in 2023.
The 2023 Academic All-District Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletics and in the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 29.
