Digby breaks own shot put record to lead Men’s Outdoor Track and Field at Ashland Open

ASHLAND — Junior Keegan Digby (Bowling Green/Otsego) broke his own school record in the shot put to lead the Ohio Northern men's outdoor track and field team at the two-day Ashland Alumni Open on Friday and Saturday at the Dwight Schar Athletic Complex.
Digby placed second in the elite section of the shot put with a mark of 17.46 meters, breaking his own school record of 17.04 meters that he set on April 22 at the Mike Becraft Invitational. This is the fourth time this season that Digby has broken his own school record in the event, and the mark of 17.46 meters ranks third nationally in Division III.
Digby also posted a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 49.25 meters.
The Polar Bears (20-4 overall) had three other headlining performances at the meet, which was not team scored.
Sophomore Tyrese Barker (Columbus/Bishop Hartley) finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of :14.87, which ranks second all-time at ONU.
Senior Vini Souza (Spencerville) placed second in the 100 meters with a personal-best time of :10.76, which ranks seventh all-time at ONU.
Senior Ollie Jacobs (DeGraff/Riverside) finished fourth in the 200 in a personal-best time of :21.86, which ranks eighth all-time at ONU.
Senior Hunter Kesler (Oakwood/Paulding) finished third in the 400 with a time of :49.20, and fifth-year senior Caden Sauerbrey (Dresden/Tri-Valley) was fourth in the 5,000 with a time of 15:31.89.
The 4x100 relay team of sophomores Liam Ferroggiaro (Rockford/Parkway), Sam Fisher (Akron/Revere) and Jacob Kreger (Granville) and freshman Solomon Lumb (Cincinnati/Sycamore) finished fifth in a time of :44.25.
Northern had 11 additional top-eight finishes at the meet.
The Polar Bears return to action on Thursday and Friday for the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at Mount Union.
