Digby breaks shot put record to lead Men’s Outdoor Track and Field to team title at Manchester (Ind.) Invitational

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — Junior Keegan Digby (Bowling Green/Otsego) broke his own school record in the shot put to lead the Ohio Northern men's outdoor track and field team to a first-place finish at the Manchester (Ind.) Invitational on Saturday at Spartan Stadium.
Digby set the previous school record of 16.38 meters at last season's NCAA Championships to earn All-American honors and bested that on Saturday with a throw of 16.74 meters.
Digby also placed second in the hammer throw, posting a mark of 49.69 meters, and was sixth in the discus throw with a mark of 38.46 meters.
Digby's victory in the shot put was one of 15 first-place finishes for the Polar Bears (4-0 overall) on Saturday.
Northern tallied 356 points on the day, finishing first of five teams. Manchester was second with 150 points, and Bluffton was third with 89 points.
Sophomores Trey Masterson (Tiffin/Hopewell-Loudon) and Ryan Massie (Beavercreek) and junior Trey Myers (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne) broke into ONU's all-time leaderboards on Saturday.
Masterson won the 1,500 meters in 3:55.41, and Massie was second in 3:55.84. Those times rank sixth and eighth, respectively, all-time at ONU.
Myers won the 400 meters in :49.09, which ranks eighth in program history.
The day was highlighted by 12 additional first-place finishes.
Junior Braden Schaser (Fostoria/Lakota) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:58.65, sophomore Jordan Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela Saint Joseph) won the 100 meters in :11.04, and senior Alan Dravenstott (Medina) won the 800 meters in 1:59.90.
Sophomore Landon Remmert (Marengo/Highland) won the 400-meter hurdles in :57.23, senior Vini Souza (Spencerville) won the 200 meters in :22.28, and senior Breydan Hann (Wooster) won the 5,000 meters in 15:26.50.
Souza added a second-place finish in the 100 meters in :11.27.
Junior Tommy Vetrovsky (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) won the javelin throw with a mark of 47.72 meters, was third in the hammer throw with a mark of 49.12 meters and was fourth in the shot put with a mark of 13.53 meters.
Senior Brandt Marshall (Orange Twp./Cory-Rawson) won the pole vault with a height of 4.10 meters, sophomore Tyrese Barker (Columbus/Bishop Hartley) won the high jump with a mark of 1.85 meters, and senior Nick Tangeman (Maria Stein/Marion Local) won the long jump with a mark of 6.58 meters.
Barker added a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles in :15.69, and Tangeman was second in the triple jump with a mark of 12.10 meters.
The Polar Bears also won two relay events.
Souza, Dean and seniors Hunter Kesler (Oakwood/Paulding) and Ollie Jacobs (DeGraff/Riverside) won the 4x100 relay in :41.05.
Jacobs, Barker and freshmen Ben Zimmerer (Liberty Township/Lakota West) and James Shorter (Lima/Perry) won the 4x400 relay in 3:27.28.
The Polar Bears return to action on Friday and Saturday at the All-Ohio Championships and Bucknell (Pa.) Bison Classic.
