Jordan Dean breaks 26-year old school record in 400 to lead Men's Indoor Track and Field at Grand Valley State (Mich.) Big Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. — Sophomore Jordan Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela-Saint Joseph) broke the school's 26-year old record in the 400-meter dash, leading a group of 11 members of the Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team at the Grand Valley (Mich.) Big Meet on Friday night at the Kelly Family Sports Center.
Dean won his heat and was seventh of 22 in the 400 in :48.87, just ahead of Matt Wolfe's record :48.88 set in 1997.
Dean defeated athletes from Division I schools DePaul and Oakland and Division II Charleston (W.Va.) and Cedarville in his heat.
The 4x400 relay team of freshman Zach O'Neill (Holland/Maumee Valley Country Day), junior Trey Myers (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne), senior Hunter Kesler (Oakwood/Paulding) and Dean finished seventh of 11 in 3:18.08.
Myers was also 29th of 40 in the 800 in 1:55.36.
Six other men competed in the 5,000-meter run, which consisted of 10 heats throughout most of the day.
Junior Kyle Roth (Rockford/Parkway) was 11th of 23 in Heat 7 in 15:25.74.
In heat eight, senior Breydan Hann (Wooster) was 16th of 29 in 15:34.82.
Four ONU men had top-10 finishes in Heat 9.
Junior Jared Swartz (Columbua Station/Columbia) was second in 15:28.77, junior Aaron Guzman (Lebanon) was third in 15:31.28, Ian Ackenhausen (Xenia/Legacy Christian Academy) was eighth in 15:42.31 and junior Braden Schaser (Fostoria/Lakota) was ninth in 15:34.82.
"I am really proud of our effort on a big stage," ONU head coach Jason Maus said. "We had a lot or P.R.s and really good performances today."
The meet was not scored.
The rest of the Polar Bear squad returns to action Saturday at the Tiffin Open.
