Digby breaks school record in shot put as Men’s Indoor Track and Field opens 2023 season by winning fourth annual Larry Cole Invitational

ADA — Junior Keegan Digby (Bowling Green/Otsego) broke the school record in the shot put to lead the Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team at its season-opening win in the Larry Cole Invitational on Friday night at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears (5-0) scored 242 points to lead the six-team field. Adrian (Mich.) was second with 79 points, and Manchester (Ind.) was third with 73 points.
In the final event of the night, Digby broke the previous school record of 15.92 meters in the shot put, posting a distance of 16.26 meters. His previous best of 15.64 meters was second-best in school history.
Digby also won the weight throw, posting a personal-best and meet-record distance of 16.80 meters. That mark is tied for fifth all-time at ONU.
The Polar Bears posted first-place finishes in five other events.
Sophomore Jordan Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela Saint Joseph) won the 400 meters in a meet-record time of :50.32.
Sophomore Thomas Masterson (Tiffin/Hopewell-Loudon) won the 3,000 meters in a meet-record time of 8:47.21.
Freshman Brett Greer (Mentor) won the 60 meters in :07.11, senior Brooks Blakeley (Versailles) won the 1,000 meters in 2:43.13, and senior Ollie Jacobs (DeGraff/Riverside) won the 200 meters in :23.13.
The Polar Bears also had nine second-place finishes.
Sophomore Tyrese Barker (Columbus/Bishop Hartley) was second in the 60-meter hurdles in a personal-best time of :08.70, which is tied for sixth all-time at ONU.
Freshman Zach O'Neill (Holland/Maumee Valley Country Day) was second in the 400 meters in :50.99, sophomore Isaac Schoen (Coldwater) was second in the 800 meters in 2:05.35, sophomore Corey Rinehart (Galena/Olentangy Berlin) was second in the 1,000 meters in 2:43.18, freshman Brett Greer (Mentor) was second in the 200 meters in :23.35, and junior Kyle Roth (Rockford/Parkway) was second in the 3,000 meters in 9:06.78.
Sophomores Liam Ferroggiaro (Rockford/Parkway), Sam Fisher (Akron/Revere), Torrance Nichols (Fairfield), and Mitchel Vance (Bellefontaine/Benjamin Logan) placed second in the 4x200 relay in 1:37.91.
In the field events, senior Brandt Marshall (Orange Twp./Cory-Rawson) was second in the pole vault with a height of 4.05 meters, and senior Nick Tangeman (Maria Stein/Marion Local) was second in the triple jump with a mark of 12.69 meters.
The Polar Bears return to action on Jan. 28 at the Muskingum Invitational.
