Buderer, Shellhaas post top-5 finishes in pole vault to lead Men’s Outdoor Track and Field at the first day of the Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Seniors Andrew Buderer (Oak Harbor) and Luke Shellhaas (Greenville/Versailles) posted top-five finishes in the pole vault to lead the Ohio Northern men's outdoor track and field team in the first day of the Bison Outdoor Classic at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium at Bucknell (Pa.) on Friday.
Buderer placed fourth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.50 meters, and Shellhaas was right behind in fifth with a height of 4.35 meters.
Freshman Thomas Masterson (Tiffin/Hopewell-Loudon) also posted a top-10 finish, placing ninth in the unseeded 5,000 meters with a time of 15:19.98.
Northern had three runners place inside the top 35 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Fifth-year senior Travis Sutter (Sharpsburg/Ft. Recovery) was 22nd with a time of 9:35.44, sophomore Braden Schaser (Fostoria/Lakota) was 32nd with a time of 9:44.47, and junior Breydan Hann (Wooster) was 35th with a time of 9:48.56.
Schaser and Hann both posted personal-best times in the event.
Sophomore Kyle Roth (Rockford/Parkway) placed 17th in the unseeded 10,000 meters with a personal-best time of 31:48.90 to lead three other Polar Bears in the event. Senior Patrick Baker (Massillon/Jackson) was 21st with a time of 31:56.15, senior Caden Sauerbrey (Dresden/Tri-Valley) was 37th with a time of 32:51.15, and sophomore Jared Swartz (Columbia Station/Columbiana) was 39th with a time of 33:08.44.
Sophomore Gabe Hensley (Lebanon) finished 29th in the long jump with a mark of 6.48 meters, and freshman Ryan Massie (Beavercreek) was 58th in the unseeded 1,500 meters with a time of 4:03.55.
The Polar Bears are competing as a split squad this weekend and will be in action on Saturday for the final day of the Bison Outdoor Classic as well as the All-Ohio Championships at Ohio Wesleyan.
