Strong 5,000-meter run performance leads Men's Track and Field at Marian (Ind.) Knight Open
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A strong performance in the 5,000-meter run and a first-place finish from junior Ollie Jacobs (DeGraff/Riverside) in the 100-meter dash led the Ohio Northern men's track and field team at the Marian (Ind.) Knight Open at St. Vincent Field on Saturday morning.
Bethel (Ind.), Grace (Ind.), Indiana Kokomo, Indianapolis (Ind.), Indiana Tech, Marian (Ind.) and Wabash (Ind.) also competed in Saturday's meet, which did not keep team scores.
The Polar Bears were led by a 1-2-3-4-5 finish in the 5,000-meter run. Freshman Thomas Masterson (Tiffin/Hopewell-Loudon) won the event in 15:00.92, senior Patrick Baker (Massillon/Jackson) was second in 15:03.41, sophomore Kyle Roth (Rockford/Parkway) was third in 15:19.13, senior Caden Sauerbrey (Dresden/Tri-Valley) was fourth in 15:20.71 and junior Breydan Hann (Wooster/Wooster) was fifth in 15:30.75.
Jacobs won the 100-meter dash in :11.24 and placed second in the 200-meter dash in :22.79.
Northern added three more individual second-place finishes.
Senior Luke Shellhaas (Greenville/Versailles) finished second in the pole vault with a height of 4.40 meters.
Sophomore Keegan Digby (Bowling Green/Otsego) came in second in the shot put with a toss of 15.44 meters.
Sophomore Gabe Hensley (Lebanon/Lebanon) placed second in the long jump with a personal-best jump of 6.65 meters.
Two more second-place finishes from the 4x400-meter relay and 4x800-meter relay teams added to the strong overall team performance.
The 4x400 team of sophomore Tyler St. Onge (Litchfield, N.H./Campbell), Jacobs, freshman Mitchel Vance (Bellefontaine/Benjamin Logan) and sophomore David Gross (Prospect/Pleasant Local) finished in 3:28.52.
The 4x800 team of junior Brooks Blakeley (Versailles/Versailles), sophomore Canyon Neundorfer (Bellville, Tex./St. John), freshman Isaac Schoen (Coldwater/Coldwater) and freshman Trent Babcock (Painesville/Riverside) finished in 8:31.00.
The Polar Bears return to action on Saturday at the Oberlin Invitational.
