Andrew Buderer wins conference title, as Men’s Indoor Track & Field sits 4th after Day 1 of OAC Championships

MARIETTA — Sophomore Andrew Buderer (Oak Harbor) gave the Ohio Northern indoor track and field team a dream start to Day 1 of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships Friday inside Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. Buderer won a conference title in pole vault, clearing 4.69 meters, helping the Polar Bears position themselves fourth, with 35 points in the team standings.
Mount Union leads the way, tallying 79 points, while Otterbein and John Carroll round out the top three with 60 and 45 points, respectively.
Buderer had plenty of friendly company beside him in pole vault. Junior teammate Donald Gaylord II (Ashtabula/Lakeside) placed fourth with a mark of 4.41. meters, and sophomore Luke Shellhaas (Greenville/Versailles) finished seventh, clearing 4.27 meters.
Sophomore Nate Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela Saint Joseph) enjoyed a strong start to his conference meet, as well. He placed placed runner-up in the 400-meter dash, registering a time of 49.69.
Junior Colin McCullough (Galion) took fifth in the long jump, logging a leap of 6.46 meters.
The distance medley relay team of junior Jordan Green (Wooster), freshman Hunter Kesler (Oakwood/Paulding), senior Andrew Shelton (Williamsville, N.Y./South) and Sam Krabacher (Hamilton/Badin) crossed fifth with a time of 10:44.00.
Junior Alex Sube (Wadsworth/Highland) rounded out the top-eight finishers, placing seventh in the weight throw, recording a toss of 15.02 meters.
The meet will continue Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
